questions department: if an editor shows interest, but suggests changes, should I make them? I'm inclined not to automatically follow the changes; in one case I made changes to the aspect mentioned, but in a different direction, and that story was eventually accepted.
somehow this is very different to journalism, where I was far less precious about taking stuff out and making additions. I guess fiction is still considered so much a one-person enterprise, whereas it's assumed that news copy is collaborative.
and I'm so aware of the risk of making compromises in order to be published. that said, I know I'm lucky to have anyone showing any interest, and to get the constructive feedback. time to chew on it for a bit before picking up thepen keyboard.
