there are a certain group of artists - musical mostly - who come from my place and time, and when I listen to their music or read their writing or see their art, I know I have something like that. I don't know what it is about provenance, but it matters. a certain set of circumstances create a certain worldview? maybe. these are seriously good people I'm talking about - Nick Cave, Peter Carey, a printmaker whose name I can't even remember. but what? what is it to be?
